A collection of write-ups and thoughts around running a business built upon state of the art artificial intelligence.
Trying to dissect the frothy hypotheticals from the empirical learnings.
Welcome to AI - Musings and Business by me, Dan Morozoff, a PhD Dropout from Columbia who started a company working on cutting edge AI / CV / ML in video understanding. I work with some famous and not so famous researchers and scientists both in academia and industry through a company that competes with large and small businesses to build useful ML tools for video.
This substack is as much a collection of musings around the industry as a way for me to coalesce and track my thoughts around how the AI/ML industry is evolving. Profiling interesting research and business approaches to the space.
What I hope you can takeaway:
A real non-distilled view of AI in 2020s from someone on the ground. In other words, trying to cut through the BS sold by salesmen, PR hype men and other technorati. My goal is to draw a dividing line between the art of the possible and empty promises made by so many in the industry. I hope to make this as objective and unvarnished view of what AI is today and will be possible in the near term.
State of the art highlights from research. I will try to profile works and ideas I come across. These will range across various subfields and come from top CV/ML conferences (CVPR, NeurIPS, ICLR … ) as well as random papers I come across on arxiv. I will also post books and write ups that I find useful and can bring folks up to speed in certain specialized areas - RL, unsupervised learning, probabilistic DL, etc.
Musing around business opportunities and ideas of what ML can do. I plan on doing weekly/monthly series and profiles around various business models and services offered and exploring where both large and small companies have succeeded and failed.
Ethics and philosophy of AI. This is a hot topic and one I believe is important for people involved with both business and AI research.
